Portrait Emulation
Reflection
Melissa Ann Pinney is a very accomplished portrait photographer. She was was born and lives in St. Louis, MO. For college, Pinney attended 3 different colleges. First she attended Manattanville College in 1973 for Liberal Arts Curriculum In 1977. Then, she attended Columbia College and received her Bachelor of Art Degree in Photography. Finally, in 1988, she attendedthe University of Illinois Circle Campus and received her Master in Fine Arts for Photography.
Melissa Ann Pinney's work has been featured in New York Times, O Magazine, Real Simple, and Marie Claire. She is not a photographer for those magazines, she work has just been chosen to be in it.
Melissa Ann Pinney photographs people most of the time; she only rarely photographs nature or an object, such as a house. In her pictures, you will find lots of pictures of her daughter, sometimes with her friends or family.
The picture I chose to emulate is unnamed but it is from her series of photographs called the "White Dress Project" which is pictures of her daughter and friends at their 8th grade graduation. I found the picture that I chose simple but elegant. Even though it is just a girl sitting in a seat with a white dress on, the small details like the mirror, the window, the pictures, and the little toy car make the picture one of a kind.
By recreating the setting, with all the small details included, I was able to create an emulation. Even though it is not exact, it was close to the original.
